Some people are more formal than others.
Some wear a suit to work, some do not.
Some have manners, some do not.
Some look like they’re going to a nightclub, some to a formal business event.
Some people never share anything of themselves in their businesses, some share everything.
Some do not ask personal questions, others send out birthday presents, holiday cards, presents for children etc.
People are people, they all do business in different ways.
I remember being at a large supplier meeting of recruiters about 25 years ago. There we all were (about 100 of us) in our grey or blue suits and ties, short back and side, black briefcase, and BMWs in the car park.
We were all waiting for this massive client presentation. They were running late. Clearly, waiting for something…
And then, almost exactly ten minutes late, there was a bang, the doors opened and a guy walked in. One hundred heads turned to see a figure who looked like he was going surfing.
He had ong hair, leather chokers around his wrist and neck, casual “cheesecloth” style shirt, summer trousers, board shoes and no socks.
We all looked at him as if to ask if he was in the wrong place.
He then proceeded to walk straight over to the CEO, wink at him, high five him and then proceeded to do similar with all of the other senior decision makers.
People do not all do business the same.
Get over it already.
