So, I am one of the first with native LinkedIn video. If you want to get valuable motivational and inspirational videos, thoughts and interactions with me then join me here Gavin Ingham LinkedIn.
Serendipity is a funny thing; it sometimes sends you off down avenues that you have previously ignored…
Recently, I was having a conversation with a friend. We were talking about social media, blogging and content marketing. I have actually been blogging, writing newsletters and producing content since well before virtually all other experts in the UK so it is an area that I know a lot about.
Infact, I could embarrass many others with things they said to me in the early days. Many accused me of “giving away too much,” and asked, “Why do you give away all of this content?!”
On this, history was on my side and they were soon playing catch up. One area I have always been relatively “quiet” on, however, is LinkedIn. I have a LinkedIn account, I auto-posted articles to my timeline, I even set up a group once… but, ultimately, I would log on once a week, agree to some requests to network and log out again. It was just not on my agenda.
Anyway, this friend, in no uncertain terms, gave me a drubbing for not being more personally involved. It was a fair criticism. I wasn’t giving it any time. And, in my defence, you cannot do everything, I have enough business and I am time short so why do it when my existing strategies work? Everyone has to prioritise.
Shortly afterwards, another friend shared with me his LinkedIn strategy and expressed surprise that I had never really been involved. He too gave me a dressing down.
Over the years, I have learnt that if you want to stay in front, you have to listen and I had no defence for my inactivity other than time so I decided to clear my diary for a few minutes every day and give some genuine personal interaction. About two weeks ago, I turned off all automation and started to interact with a few people.
At this exact same time, I was considering what I wanted to do with my video insights. I release various videos quite regularly to add value for my clients and followers but the platforms available are not usually the ones that my typical clients frequent. Because of this, most views go on from my website. This means getting people there and that is a constant battle with all of the content out there these days.
48 hours after going active on LinkedIn, I read that only a few people in the world were going to get native LinkedIn video. This exciting new LinkedIn feature was going to be rolled out at some point to everyone but, for now, just the few.
A few influencers. It was rumoured only 500.
I thought nothing more about it. Until… That afternoon, I popped onto my mobile and saw the little video icon there. I had native LinkedIn video.
Why? I have no idea.
If it was about LinkedIn activity, native LinkedIn video should not have been given to me but I had it. And I felt a responsibility to use it. I felt that the sequence of events was serendipitous and you should not ignore serendipity.
Is native LinkedIn video the perfect place for my motivational and inspirational conversations? Who knows?
But I decided that I would start to post so here is the current plan…
I will be posting a Monday morning motivational video to get you psyched up and raring to go. Focusing on one core point, my aim is to get you thinking and give you something to focus on.
Later on in the week, likely Wednesday and Friday, I will be post one or two other videos answering your questions and queries. Inbetween times, I am posting tips, strategies, questions, tools and interacting with people.
My aim is to add massive value. More value than I have ever given on this kind of platform.
But native LinkedIn video is new. Many people do not have access to sound in their offices. People are not conditioned to watching video on LinkedIn. And watching video on the platform is not for everyone.
But, so far, the response has been good. People have enjoyed them and found them valuable. I want this to work because, with video, it feels like the perfect place to have these conversations and help people.
But, it is up to you too!
I’m a pretty focused guy. I target my marketing and my promotional efforts. I believe in the laser not the sawn off or the machine gun. I believe in precision. I believe in the 80/20 rule. I believe in focusing on one thing at a time. But it’s only worth it if people get involved.
I will give it 100% but I need you to take part. I need you to play. I need you to get watching, ask questions, and like and share videos. I need to grow my following and create a buzz around these videos and, in return, I will deliver great content.
If you are focused on achieving success, whether as a leader, a business owner or a salesperson, or anyone else then you need to go, link with me (or follow) and take part. It might just change your business and your life.
That’s it from me for this week. If you want to talk to me about how my ‘I am 10′ philosophy can help your teams to be motivated, focused and proactive then give me a call on UK +44 (0)845 838 5958.
Have a great week and be a ’10’.
