Time To Wipe The Slate Clean

Someone once said that many people do not have 30 years worth of work experience but 1 year repeated 30 times over. This may be a little harsh but it is, sadly, true for some. What is also true is that many people carry their failures, their losses, their old goals, their bad habits and their habitual behaviours with them from year to year. This is one of the most effective and efficient ways of ensuring that you maintain the status quo and stay stuck where you are for a long, long time... If you want to achieve more in 2011, if you want … [Read more...]

The Sales Apprentice 2010: Sales Training Tips From The Hit TV Show, Week 8

Week 8 of The Sales Apprentice and 8 contestants remain. This week their task, should they choose to accept it, was to create new flavours of crisps, produce samples and, representing two small UK crisp companies, travel to Hamburg in Germany and attempt to secure orders. The team with the most orders would be the winner. The line up this week was Stella leading Laura, Joanna and Stuart (who, after last week, was “too tired” to put himself up as project manager!) versus Chris leading Christopher, Jamie and Liz. You had to respect … [Read more...]

Bert Was Not Feeling Great About His Sales Targets

Bert was not feeling great about his targets. They felt like a they were looming over him and he couldn't escape from them. Like Bert, you will probably at some point or other have felt over-faced by seemingly unachievable targets. That's why it is so important to have a strategy for helping you to achieve your goals.  What is your strategy for helping you to achieve your goals? What works for you? What has worked for you in the past? How do you keep yourself focused when your targets are over-facing you and you don't know what to do? … [Read more...]

What Is Success?

There was a great question asked on my LinkedIn group today and I thought it was one worth thinking about on my blog... What is success? What does success mean to you? What a great question! It's probably one that people do not ask themselves often enough. One of the immediate problems that most people will have with it will be the preconceptions about the word "success". For many people it immediately conjures up visions of money, cars, awards, sales results, houses, holidays etc. One of the problems, of course, with just "accepting" such … [Read more...]

Football, Fantasy & Sales Success

Over the last couple of weeks I have been enjoying watching sports on the TV – most notably the football and the start of Wimbledon. After watching England play half-heartedly against the highly motivated US team and then appallingly against Algeria, they showed some flashes of inspiration against the Slovenians but then sat back in the last 10-15 minutes and were lucky to hold onto their win. One of the commentators said that he would forgive them that and I commented to a friend at the time that the Germans wouldn’t have. Today, … [Read more...]
