How do I get myself motivated to sell more?
Few people would argue that motivated salespeople and business people sell more. Wandering around looking like the world is out to get you and with your chin dragging along the floor never helped anyone to be a sales superstar and it never will.
Your attitude, your mindset and your approach will always play a huge part in helping you to smash your targets and build the business and the life that you desire. When I am invited to companies as a motivational speaker or sales development consultant one of the most common questions asked by sales managers, sales directors and business owners alike is, “How do I get and keep my sales teams motivated?”
Indeed, one of the most common questions asked of me by salespeople themselves is, “How do I get and keep myself motivated?”
Most people do not understand how and why they get motivated and therefore their motivation levels tend to ebb and flow like the daily tides. Few people have total control of their own motivation levels. Salespeople know that they need to be motivated to sell, they want to be motivated to sell, but often they just cannot maintain that all important motivation to sell.
Motivational speaker motivation tip 1:
Motivation begins and ends with you. You determine your own motivation. Motivation is internal, it’s something that you control; even though you may not realise that this is the case. Most people think that motivation is something external to themselves, something that happens to them. For this reason they and their sales results get buffeted severely throughout life.
Sales superstars do not believe or act this way. Sales superstars know that their personal motivation is down to them. No matter what anyone else does or says they get to choose their own motivation levels. No matter whether they get the deal or they lose the deal, they get to choose their own motivation levels. No matter whether life’s going the way they want or it’s not, they get to choose their own motivation levels.
And it’s that choice that sets them apart and defines them as the rock stars of sales.
If you want to join the ranks of the sales rock star elite now then you need to take responsibility for your motivation on a day to day, hour to hour, minute to minute and moment to moment basis…
Step 1 is to decide to do just that. To decide to hold yourself to a higher standard, to decide that nothing short of operating at the optimum level is acceptable for you anymore, to decide that you are a sales rock star.
Step 2 is to employ effective strategies for boosting your motivation and staying on top of your game. As part of my Real World Sales Tips book project I thought that it would be fun to share your favourite motivational techniques for giving yourself a motivational boost in the arm. when I feel like I am having a bad day or my tone of voice is beginning to sound suicidal I stop. I take 30 seconds to myself and click on the favorites button on my internet browser, I then proceed to look up all the items I want to buy but cannot currently afford, this in essence is my wish list. I spend a further 10 seconds wishing then realise santa clause does not exist and the only way I will get what I want is to make some more phone calls and generate sales. I get back on the phone feeling positive, safe in the knowledge that every call will bring me closer to my new LCD TV, my BMW and a holiday in Vegas! in fact even writing this has reminded me why I come to work and I feel better already!! try it.

Why is certainly a BIG motivator. Many salespeople get stuck in the day to day churn of getting up, going to work and going home, getting up, going to work and going home, getting up, going to work and going home…
They forget WHY they are doing what they do and what’s in it for them. They say, “I have to do this” when they mean, “I choose to do this because…”
Reminding yourself of what’s in it for you is as important as finding out what’s important for your clients when making sales calls.
Thanks for the input… look forward to seeing more. Have a great day.

These are just a few short tips to get you thinking. There are many tips and strategies in my forthcoming books Real World Sales Attitude and Real World Sales Tips.
I think it was Jim Rohn said “the bigger the why, the easier the how.”
Whether you sell for an orgainisation or, you’re in business yourself, you have to ask the question “why do I need to sell more.” If it’s just for bigger profits, a good appraisal or even a promotion, it’s not good enough!!
The question is, why do you want bigger profits? To take more time off, to hire more staff so you can have more time off, to buy the house of your dreams?
Why is a good appraisal so important to you? Because it will get you more recognition, leading to promotion, leading to higher income so you can take some of the adventures you’ve always wanted to?
This is how you have to think if you want to stay motivated to make more sales.
People focus too much on what they don’t have rather than focusing on what they really want. And, too many people think they just want more money but don’t say ‘why’ they want more money … i.e. what more money would do for them.
Clients are important, but you can only get that passion in your belly when you can say with confidence ‘why’ the product you sell is going to benefit the client. When they know ‘why’ they want your product, ‘how’ they’ll get it becomes easier. Suddenly they prioritise to afford your product despite the fact that yesterday they were broke!

How do I keep motivated. Decide what you want and get some real, no-turning back leverage! For example…research the holiday you desire….not a weekend in Clacton…..but a week in the Maldives or a weekend shopping in New York. Pay the deposit and then tell who you are taking about the trip….expalaining exactly what you need to achieve to pay for the rest of the holiday. Your travel ‘friend’ will keep you focused on your goal I guarantee you!!
It is also important to be selling something that you really believe in. I think that is a motivator in and of itself.
Alot of success comes from self help motivation. You are what you make of yourself. If you have low self esteem, low brain stimulation, your results will also be low. Many people that have these issues have high stress, get little sleep and don’t take care of themselves.
So, that is the bad, and I used to be part of all that negative baggage. So, I decided to study how successful people ran everything, their business, their life, everything. And I found a website that gives actual inisight from successful business people, multi-millionaires and CEO’s. I started making huge steps in the right direction based on the tips given on this website and I have since started a very rewarding job, started working successfully from home making extra money in my spare time, purchased a new vehicle and moved to a better neighborhood with a larger house. I guess you can say, this has spurred my success story.
Check it out and see what you can learn from it, sometimes you just get stuck in a rut and you are the only person who can get you out.
