I agree with Phil that there were no established rules regarding exclusivity within this project. Cash raised was the only measure.

However, providing exclusivity in an ongoing business is a dangerous thing, and a point for negotiation. Giving exclusivity is effectively removing a product from your range, and lessening your potential with other clients.

This being the case, they should have asked for a long term commitment from the client in exchange for the exclusivity, and a beefy advance order to go with it.

Doesn't Sir Alan manufacture set top boxes exclusively for Sky?

Re exclusivity; I agree with everything Sir Alan said about this, BUT to the best of my knowledge he was counting the amount of money collected on that day/evening. There was obviously nothing in the rules about exclusivity or they would not have gone there.

Only after the event did Sir Alan allude to the fact that this was a long term thing and not a one off contest (unlike the fish market, unlike the laundry one and the photography one last week, right?) -- so I thought that promising exclusivity in this circumstances was no big deal just to win the order and the task.

Maybe others reading this understood better, but I didnt. Anyone agree with me?

Come off it Gavin, what do you/we know? Some of these guys and girls are "the best sales person in Europe"...

Yeah OK I couldn't even say that with a straight face. :-) Lindi deserved to go and Jen was hot in her heels in my opinion.
